A new start, a rebirth of sorts. A good thing for Tucson.

There is more to a city than real estate. Heresy? maybe for some, but we think the life of our city is more than bricks and mortar. Tucson, is no small city. It might not have millions of people in it, but it is spread out over a lot of square miles. From where we live we can see downtown, but it takes almost 25 minutes to get there.

In the 10 years I’ve been living here I’ve not spent much time in Downtown Tucson. That started to change in January of 2009 when I went down town on a Saturday morning, found a place to park and started walking around with my camera. In the past year I’ve spent more time downtown. This year I’m going to be spending even more time in Downtown Tucson.

From what I hear there used to be a pretty lively scene in downtown Tucson along Congress street, around the Rialto and Fox theaters and parts of Scott street as well. But things haven’t been good for Downtown Tucson. But that is all changing.

2nd Saturdays Downtown is a revitalization effort to breath fresh life into that area of Tucson every Second Saturday night of the month.

Down at the Fox is going to be the Portland Cello Project.   I love this photo of them standing in a field by a bridge.   You can almost hear the music.   I think they are going to be a great way to kick off this first 2nd Saturdays downtown.   And the concert is FREE.   We all love FREE don’t WE.

Jim Click is going to be having a Pop-up Auto Mall.   (I have no idea what that is).

There is going to be some big Outdoor gaming thing with a WII and the Beatles.   Again, I don’t know what it is but it sounds like fun.

I don’t know the official Twitter hashtag for 2ndSaturdays yet, but when I do I’ll add it here. #2ndSatDT maybe.

There is a wealth of information on the site: 2ndSaturdaysDowntown.com Besides the home page you should read About 2nd Saturdays Tucson and check out the FAQ for 2nd Saturday Nights Tucson.

I’m planning on being there, roaming around with my camera, taking it all in.   I can’t wait to see how this event evolved each month over the next year.
